New Delhi: Playback singer Kumar Sanu today joined BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah, sayign he wanted to serve the poor and that a lot could be done under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Sanu had joined BJP in 2004 also when the party was led by Venkaiah Naidu, but later quit the party.

The singer felt a change could be brought about in West Bengal, where the party is seeking to strengthen itself and is currently locked in a war of words with Trinamool Congress, under the leadership of a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi, who works hard and will drive others to work hard too.

Sanu also sang a few lines of a patriotic song on the occasion.

"I am a big fan of Modi ji. Only Modi can save India and take us forward. I was attracted towards him due to his comments that he will not allow corruption," he said, adding that he would love to work with Shah and help strengthen the party.

Sanu later said he wanted to serve the country, especially the poor and the downtrodden and that he had not joined the party for any gains. He also denied that he would contest any elections.

The Kolkata-born singer, who has sung in many Indian languages, joins the party after singers Bappi Lahiri and Babul Supriyo, who won the Lok Sabha election from Asansol in West Bengal.

BJP is seeking to strengthen the party in West Bengal and is currently locked in a war of words with Trinamool Congress after the party president Amit Shah accused Mamata Banerjee and her party of protecting the Saradha scam accused and those allegedly involved in the Burdwan blast.

Chairman, Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh, A Narasimha Reddy also joined the party separately in the presence of Shah.
