New Delhi: Former Delhi chief minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit today said the forthcoming Delhi assembly elections will see a straight contest between the BJP and her party.
Speaking to India TV, Sheila Dikshit said, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party has "damaged its own prospects. This time the prospects of Congress are better and the fight will be between the Congress and the BJP this time."
Dikshit, who led the Congress to three successful victories in Delhi and ruled the city-state for 15 years before losing in last year's assembly polls, said: "None of our workers or leaders are going to desert the party. The people of Delhi will surely remember what we did for the development of the capital for the last 15 years and vote for us this time."
The former chief minister said: "if your perception is that the charisma of (Narendra) Modi which worked in Haryana and Maharashtra, will also work in Delhi, it will be proved wrong this time."
Asked about BJP leader Jagdish Mukhi not being projected by his party as chief ministerial candidate, Sheila Dikshit said: "Jagdish Mukhi and some others are big leaders in their own right. This decision (of not projecting a CM candidate) will have adverse effect."
Asked whether she would prefer to lead the Congress this time in Delhi polls, Dikshit said: "I haven't given a thought to it. It's the party high command which will decide. Let's wait."
