* Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at AAP government for not making alternate arrangements for the slum dwellers for their rehabilitation. "Why they (AAP) are protesting? Jhuggis are being demolished in AAP-ruled state," he said.

* Replying to Rahul, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "राहुल गांधी जी अभी बच्चे हैं। उनकी पार्टी ने शायद उन्हें बताया नहीं की रेल्वे केंद्र सरकार के अंडर आती है, दिल्ली सरकार के नहीं।" (Rahul Gandhi is a kid. * Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers are protesting outside the Parliament against demolition drive carried out by Railways in Shakur Basti area of Delhi.

Hundreds of 'slum dwellers in the Shakur Basti area in west Delhi were left homeless after the Railways carried out a demolition drive. Several reports say that the drive was carried out to make way for a new passenger terminal.

Also a six-month old child was found dead after the demolition drive, triggering sharp reaction from opposition political parties.

Yesterday, the Delhi government ordered a magisterial probe into the demolition of 1200 slum units at Shakur Basti and planned to move court seeking FIR against those who ordered the action citing the Special Provision Act according to which no demolition can be carried out until government needs land urgently.

The Railways, on its part, said the removal of fresh encroachment was necessary for expanding the infrastructure and that the action had been taken after three notices, the first one with the March 14, 2015 deadline.
