New Delhi, Apr 11: In a major security breach, around 150 protesters demanding reservation for Jat community Wednesday barged into the residence of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar here, following which 13 Delhi Police personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty.

Police later arrested 142 protesters and slapped a case of rioting and tresspass against them.

Shinde was not at home as he is currently on an official visit to Russia.

Protesters under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti had initially assembled at Jantar Mantar for the demonstration and in the evening they proceeded to Shinde's 2-Krishna Menon Marg residence in three buses.  Police apprently did not have any clue about the intentions of the protesters and was taken by surprise when they landed in front of the Home Minister's residence.

The protesters tried to storm into Shinde's residence but security personnel were able to prevent them initially.  However, they managed to open the gate by damaging it and reached the courtyard where they staged a sit in protest.  A senior Delhi police officer said 13 personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty.
“They(policemen) could not anticipate and prevent the protesters from entering Home Minister's residence,” he said.

The protests were led by Yashpal Malik, Satyapal Choudhary, B S Ahlawat, Ummed Singh, Moolchand Dahiya and S Singh Dhaka.

All the protesters were later detained and taken to Tughlaq Road police station.

An official said a case has been registered against the protesters.

The official said the case was registered under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (hurt) and 451 (tresspass) against the arrested persons.
