New Delhi: Trinamool Congress' supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is suspicious over CBI freeing its All India General Secretary Mukul Roy after four hours interrogation on January 30 over alleged involvement in the Saradha chit fund scam.
Mamata Banerjee hinted about this in a closed-door meeting with key party leaders on Saturday.
"Madan Mitra (state transport minister) was arrested by the CBI on the very first day of his interrogation, but Roy was allowed to go free. There must be some understandings between the CBI and Roy and Didi (Mamata) is suspicious of Roy's role now," a senior party leader said on condition of anonymity.
Mamata alleged BJP of using CBI finish her politically. But Roy has defied this party line and made statements saying he will visit CBI office a hundred times if it summons him again as he wants the probe agency to unearth the truth behind the scam. This stance has earned him the wrath of Mamata.
"I really don't know what the CBI has asked Mukul. But his body languages make me feel that he is under CBI's tremendous pressure," Mamata reportedly told her core committee members. "Some people are now saying that Mukul has named Abhisekh (Mamata's nephew) during his interrogation.
They (CBI) can even arrest me now. But I am not afraid of going to jail because none of us are thieves... If I have to go to jail, I shall go there and write books," she has reportedly said.
"BJP told Mukul either to go to jail or make every effort to split our party. The CBI is also putting up pressure on Suvendu (party MP Suvendu Adhikari). The CBI is telling him (Suvendu) either you go to jail or join BJP,” she added.
