New Delhi: Tej Pratap Yadav, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's grand nephew, is leading over his rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Prem Singh Shakya in Mainpuri Lok Sabha by 1,85,000 votes.
Speaking to India TV, Tej Pratap thanked the people of Mainpuri for their support.
“I thank the people of Mainpuri, workers and leaders of the Samajwadi Party,” he said.
The seat was vacated by Mulayam after he chose to retain Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat.
The party has just four members in the Lok Sabha - Akshay Yadav (Firozabad), Dimple Yadav (Kannauj), Dharmendra Yadav (Badaun) and Mulayam Singh Yadav himself from Azamgarh.
Mulayam, who had won by a margin of over 3.50 lakh votes, had made the contest on this seat a matter of personal pride.
In the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and allies had won 73 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.
