New Delhi: A day after Anil Goswami was sacked as union Home Secretary for seeking favors for Saradha chit fund scam accused Matang Sinh, it has now emerged that Goswami also tried to ensure Z-plus security cover continued for the former union minister.
CBI has even initiated an internal probe to ascertain if any of its officers had contacted the Joint Director in Kolkata with regard to Matang Sinh's arrest. It is learnt that the agency had effected a major reshuffle among its seven Joint Directors on Wednesday, after Sinh's arrest.
According to an Indian Express report, some officials of the Home Ministry have revealed that Sinh being close to Goswami, was provided a Z-plus cover soon after the latter resumed office as Home Secretary in 2013.
When NDA came into power, Sinh's name was missing from the list of those who deserved Z-plus security.
A senior Home Ministry official told Indian Express “A review meeting was held to prune the VIP security list but Sinh's case was never brought before us. We were deciding cases on the basis of intelligence threats and if Sinh was given security cover on genuine grounds, his case should also have been discussed.”
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) providing security to Sinh has now written to Home Ministry, seeking clarity on the former Union minister's security status after his arrest.
Former UPA ministers Beni Prasad Verma, Jitn Prasada, Sachin Pilot and R P N Singh are some of the names whose security covers were downgraded or removed after NDA took charge.
