New Delhi: India is constructing and upgrading roads along the borders with Bangladesh, Pakistan, China and Nepal and plans similar action along the India-Bhutan and India-Myanmar border as well, government told the Lok Sabha today.
Minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said construction and upgradation of roads of 4,379km along India-Bangladesh border has been going on.
Such a project is also being implemented in 689.95km along the India-Pakistan border, he said during Question Hour.
Construction and upgradation of roads is also going on in 3,796km along India-China border and 1377km along India-Nepal border, the minister said.
Government has also plans for development of border along Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Myanmar border, he said.
Giving a break-up of funds allocated during the last three years (2012-13 to 2014-15) and current financial year, Rijiju said Rs 353 crore were spent on India-Bangladesh border, Rs 374.93 crore on India-Pakistan border, Rs 5,029.28 crore on India-China border, Rs 1,800 crore on India-Nepal border, Rs 150 crore on India-Bhutan border and Rs 11.11 crore on India-Myanmar border.
As on November 30, 2015, construction work has been completed on 3560.76km roads along India-Bangladesh border, 397.76km along India-Pakistan border, 2259.48km along India-China border and 36.78km along Indo-Nepal border, he said.
Construction of border roads along India-Bhutan border has not yet commenced while development of roads along India-Myanmar border is at prefeasibility stage, he said.
