Kanwar Singh Tanwar is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has won the Indian general elections, 2014 from the Amroha (Lok Sabha constituency).
Turncoat politician Kanwar Singh Tanwar is known to ride the "wave". He joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2008 when Mayawati was the flavour of the season and switched sides to Congress in 2012. With the lead UPA player in a downward spiral and a Narendra Modi wave sweeping the country, Tanwar hitched his wagon to the BJP in February and landed a party ticket on Monday to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Amroha in UP with yoga guru Baba Ramdev's backing.
BJP had earlier announced former cricketer Chetan Chauhan for this seat despite Ramdev's reported reservations. Tanwar claims he has long association with the yoga guru.
He runs two medical centres in the constituency and around a dozen mobile dispensaries to provide free care and medicines to the needy. "This has made me popular in every household," he claimed.
Tanwar, whose family is into real estate and hotels, grabbed the nation's attention when the wedding of his youngest son in 2011 was touted as one of the most expensive ever, involving Rs 250 crore. It was also claimed that Tanwar junior's father-in-law, former Sohna MLA Sukhbir Jaunapuria, had included a chopper as a wedding gift.
Tanwar loves to drive his Audi. His house has 12 rooms.
