Srinagar: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today assured Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) that the Centre will soon announce a comprehensive rehabilitation package for flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Finance Minister assured us that the Centre will announce a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the flood victims of the state within next couple of days,” KCCI president Ashiq Hussain Sheikh told PTI.

Sheikh said Jaitley gave the assurance to a delegation of KCCI, which called on the Finance Minister in Delhi.  “The Finance Minister said the Centre was in consultation with the state government on the rehabilitation package, which is being given finishing touches,” the KCCI president said.

He said the trade body also raised the issue of making Srinagar, which bore the maximum brunt of floods last year, a ‘Smart City'.

“We apprised the Finance Minister that Srinagar deserves to be a Smart City and work towards it should begin now as the city is in the midst of rebuilding in the aftermath of the devastation caused by floods last year,” Sheikh said.  He said Jaitley assured them all possible help in this regard.

The previous National Conference-Congress government had submitted a proposal for Rs 44,000-crore rehabilitation package to the Centre for flood victims of the state.
