Dalits should go for inter-caste marriage to 'increase population': Manjhi
Manjhi stirred up a controversy by asking Dalit youths to marry outside their caste to become a political force in Bihar.
Addressing Dalit students at a welfare hostel in Patna, he said, “Dalit youths should go for more and more inter-caste marriage. If we need to become a political force, we need to take our population from 16 to 22 per cent.”
The Chief Minister later clarified that his advice had political meanings.
“Any party that gets 22 per cent votes comes to power. What I am saying has political meanings,” he said.
“My words were misconstrued by media, it hurts me,” he had added.
