Chidambarm's better half, Nalini Chidambaram is the daughter of Retd Justice Kailasam and Soundra Kailasam. Together, Chidambaram and Nalini have a son Karti who is an AICC member and has been proactive in Tamil Nadu state politics. Karti is married to Srinidi Chidambaram who is a Bharatnatyam dancer and a doctor. Chidambaram has a granddaughter named Aditi Chidambaram.
