New Delhi: Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister has asked the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh to improve law and order situation in the state.
"The state government should pay serious and immediate attention to the law and order situation. The Centre is ready to extend cooperation, if needed," the Home Minister said while talking to reporters.
Rajnath Singh was in Lucknow on Saturday to flag off the Lucknow-Kathgodam tri-weekly express train, the announcement of which was made in last year's Budget.
He said the gruesome murder of a young woman named Gauri Srivastava, whose body was chopped into pieces, was extremely unfortunate and the police should bring the culprits to book.
Asked to comment on chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's absence from the function, the Union home minister said he must be preoccupied elsewhere and therefore could not be present.
Commenting on questions about the prospects of the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections, Singh said he is confident his party will get a clear majority in Delhi.
When home minister was asked whether Lucknow would get some more trains, Mr Rajnath Singh quipped, “I am not the railway minister and I do not make the Rail Budget.”
