New Delhi/ Kolkata: Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured the Centre's help to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh while discussing the floods and landslides in their states.

The Home Ministry said it was regularly monitoring the flood situation in various parts of the country and extending necessary assistance.

About 40 lakh people in Gujarat's 14 districts have been affected in recent floods following heavy rainfall in the last few days. More than 10 lakh food packets have been distributed among the flood victims, the ministry said in a statement.

Temporary relief camps have been set up in affected areas and 17 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams deployed for rescue and relief operations in the state.

The release said that in Rajasthan, 28 deaths have been reported of which 12 people lost their lives in the last few days, following very heavy rainfall and flood-like situation in many parts of the state.

Rajasthan has experienced excessive rainfall in most of its districts. The situation was grim, particularly in the districts of Jalore, Jhalawar, Baran, Sirohi, Barmer and Dungarpur, the release said.

It said 48 deaths have been reported from various parts of West Bengal during the floods due to lightning, wall collapse, electrocution, snake bite and drowning.

Citing reports from the state government, it said heavy to very heavy rainfall due to cyclone Komen occurred at a few places in almost all southern districts of Rajasthan.

Over 36 lakh people in 12 districts have been affected due to floods and the state government has deployed 121 boats for rescue and relief operations and set up 1,537 relief camps, it said.

In Manipur, about 20 villagers of Joumol village in Chandel district were swept away in Saturday's landslide. Two teams of the NDRF have been earmarked for rescue and relief operations in the village, the ministry's release added.

Rajnath Singh speaks to Mamata Banerjee

Rajnath Singh on Sunday evening spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over phone and enquired about the flood situation in the state.

According to state secretariat officials, Singh during his conversation with the chief minister discussed the situation in all affected districts.

Meanwhile, Banerjee held discussions with district officials of all affected districts through video conference and took reports of the latest flood situation.

She is also monitoring the situation from time to time by meeting senior officials at the state secretariat.
