New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today launched a scathing attack on BJP-led Narendra Modi government at the Centre and AAP government in Delhi for not addressing the grievances of poor and making only hollow promises.
"Modiji and Kejriwal think that after merely making promises they can bring about a change. No change can be brought by making promises. A change can be brought only after standing here and exerting pressure," he said.
He said that the Congress party will continue to raise the issues and concerns of poor and farmers.
"I was in Chhattisgarh yesterday. I saw coal mines there for first time. Land is grabbed from farmers and they are given insufficient amount," Rahul said at the 'aakrosh march' by Valmiki Samaj at Jantar Mantar (Delhi)
He also advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi to keep his 'suit-boot' aside and visit the villages of Chhattisgarh to see the benefits of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
"Prime Minister Modi has criticized the UPA's MNREGA programme. He said in the Parliament that he is not going to shut down MNREGA to keep the memory of UPA's failures alive... If he keeps his Rs 15 lakh worth suit-boot aside and visits the villages here then he will see the benefits of MNREGA," the Congress vice-president said.
Referring to woes of sanitation workers in Delhi, he said, "I told the safai karamcharees that they are India's 'sena'. No matter how much time passes we will fulfil everyone's demands."
"This isn't a speech for safai karamcharees but for the weak, poor, underprivileged people of this nation," he added.
Vowing to fight for the rights of weaker sections, which the party is keen to woo back, Rahul said, "I am standing with you, whereever you want. For one day, 10 days, 50 days or 100 days."
Rahul also said that India does not need 'development' as envisioned by NDA government instead the nation needs inclusive development.
