New Delhi, Apr 15: The Allahabad High Court on Monday struck down the district status of Amethi terming its creation as illegal.
Amethi, which was named as Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government and later renamed as Amethi by the Samajwadi Party government, was carved out of Sultanpur and Rae Bareli districts of northern Uttar Pradesh.
