New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today broke his silence on charges levelled against him by former Union minister and Congress leader Jayanthi Natarajan.

Addressing an election rally in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area,  Rahul said that he had indeed asked Jayanthi to protect the interests of tribals.

"I told Jayanthi Natarajan that you have to protect the environment, tribals and poor," said Rahul.

"I will fight for poor till my last breath. I am not scared of it," Congress vice-president added .

Rahul took a jibe at Modi for his Rs. 10 lakh suit and said that it does not match his claims of promoting ‘Make in India'.

“PM wears suit worth Rs 10 lakh, even that is not made in India, it is made in UK, and he speaks of Make In India," said Rahul.

Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul  said the BJP leader has failed drastically to fulfil on his promises made during the Lok Sabha polls.

Rahul further said that despite downfall in the value of fuel, prices of basic commodities are skyrocketing.

“Price of diesel and petrol is dropping but still there is inflation. Modi made many promises during the Lok Sabha polls. I had said one man alone can't change India,” he said.

The Congress scion promised that, if voted to power, the Congress government will cut the electricity rates and water tariff.

“We will give remove contract labour system in one week if elected. We will lower power and water tariff,” he said.

He also chided the saffron party for considering people from the northeast like foreigners in its ‘Vision Document' which was released yesterday.

“Yesterday, few BJP leaders termed northeast people ‘foreigners'. It is very easy to make promises but working on your promises so that it reaches the end number of people is very difficult task,” he said.

Campaigning in the national capital will conclude tomorrow with single-phase polling slated for February 7 and counting of votes on February 10.
