New Delhi: While Meethapur village in Badarpur was today decked up with Congress flags and posters for the first rally by party President Sonia Gandhi, people of this area in South East Delhi say their issues remained unresolved despite promises made by various parties.

Shortage of water, erratic power supply and lack of proper infrastructure are the major issues for voters in Badarpur which is likely to witness a three-cornered contest among AAP, BJP and Congress candidates.  “The problems of sewage, water and electricity have been affecting us for a long time.

Parties make promises but the issues remain unresolved,” said Ashok Khanna who had come to listen to Gandhi.

BJP has fielded Rambir Bidhuri who had emerged victorious from the seat thrice while AAP has nominated ND Sharma. Congress has fielded Ram Singh Netaji who had won from the constituency in 1998 and in 2013 Assembly polls.

The Badarpur residents believe that parties are more focused on criticising each rather than fulfilling promises they make in poll manifestos.

Sohini, a DU student said, “One party is criticising rival leaders for promoting themselves or for sitting on dharnas but what are you doing? Just criticising them. Where is their plan of action?”

“Even if they turn out to be mere promises then also a party is expected to at least come up with some new promises.  They don't have any issues to raise,” said Bhupinder, a grocery shop owner.
