New Delhi: Observing that the threat of terror is not confined to one country, region or religion, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today said if any aberration comes from any particular community, the initiative to resolve it has to come from the people of that group only.

Rijiju said in India people are involved so much in debates and discussions that sometimes it spirals out of control and diversion of subjects sometimes starts bringing religion into the debate, which is disturbing.

“If the problem comes from any particular region, it may be out of religious or communal angle, the lead role to stop it has to come from within that society only. “If we talk of Islamic fundamentalism, it (solution) has to be led by Muslims. If it is a problem with Buddhists segment, it has to come from Buddhists and if it is something related to Hindus fundamentalism, it has to be led by Hindus,” he said at a security conclave here.

Rijiju said no religion promotes violence and hence religious leaders should appeal, work hard and try to ensure that there is no violence anywhere.

The Minister of State for Home said threat of terror is not confined to any particular country, region or religion.

“Terrorism has become a global threat. Besides global terrorism, there are localised concerns too. We need to upgrade our understanding. We need to deal locally. Our approach, the approach of the central and state governments alone may not be enough. We need to do more. Media needs to play more active role. Government can't do much alone,” he said.

Referring to cross border terrorism, Rijiju said the government has identified some areas which are vulnerable for infiltration.

“Our borders are being used to wage war against us. We have improved our coastal security, we have strengthened our security forces, we have set up new hubs of NSG to deal with the emerging threat. But we need to create more robust system, better coordination so that we can take on any situation,” he said.

Referring to Pakistan, the Minister said except that country, all other neighbours have been cooperating with India while dealing with terrorism.

“There cannot be any breeding ground for terror. We have submitted dossiers after dossiers on Dawood Ibrahim, (JeM leader) Maulana Masood Azhar, (LeT founder) Hafiz Saeed. But we are not getting cooperation from Pakistan,” he said.
