New Delhi, Sep 15: President Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee has been selected as the Congress candidate for next month's bypoll to the Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal. The seat was held by Mukherjee senior till his elevation to the presidency.
The bypoll will be held on Oct 10 and counting on Oct 13.
"The Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) has approved the proposal for the candidature of Abhijit Mukherjee for the byelection to the Lok Sabha from the Jangipur constituency in West Bengal," said a party release.
Abhijit Mukherjee is presently a Congress legislator from Nalhati assembly constituency in West Bengal's Birbhum district.
He had expressed his desire to contest from Jangipur constituency.
