New Delhi, Oct 3: President Pranab Mukherjee does not want to use the traditional prefix ‘His Excellency' with his name. Instead, he wants ‘Shri' to be used before his name.
The President's office has sent a directive in this regard to the registrar of Lalit narayan Mishra University (LNMU) in Bihar where the President is presiding over today. The directive clearly states that the traditional honorific like ‘His Excellency' be dropped as prefix to his name and replaced with the simple prefix'Shri'.
And the University has promptly accepted and implemented the directive.
"We have complied with the directive and deleted honorific of 'His Excellency' before the President's name and replace with the word 'Shri' in the invitation letters for the university's convocation to be held on October 3," said Vijay Prasad Singh, registrar of LNMU.
The directive also asked the University to do away with distinct and taller chair for the seating of the President at the convocation function and accordingly the university has arranged for chairs of equal height for all guests on the Dias.
