Rajkot: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his displeasure over a temple dedicated to him in Gujarat's Rajkot, the district administration has removed his idol  from the temple today.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi said he was shocked at the news that a temple was built in his name.

“Have seen the news about a temple being built in my name. I was appalled. This is shocking and against India's great traditions. Building such temples is not what our culture teaches us,” he tweeted.

He also said that if people have that kind of resources then that could be used to clean India.

“Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it. If you have time and resources, please devote the same towards fulfilling our dream of a Clean India,” Modi said.

Right after PM Modi's tweet of disapproval, Ramesh Undhad one of the makers of the temple cancelled its inauguration.

“We felt pained that we hurt sentiments of our ‘God' (Modi) and after his displeasure we have covered his idol installed at the temple,” group leader Ramesh Undhad said.

He also added that the idol will be removed.

Another member of the group Jayesh Patel said the temple will now be dedicated to ‘Bharat Mata'.
