New Delhi, Sep 10: Political parties should reflect deeply on how the “erosion of parliamentary procedure” is adversely affecting the image of lawmakers among the public, senior Congress leader Karan Singh said today.
In his address at the National Integration Council (NIC) meeting, Singh said he was “deeply disturbed” at the way in which the parliamentary system seems to be getting derailed with constant forced adjournments and forays into the Well of the House.
“Without apportioning blame, I would appeal to Members of all the political parties who are present to reflect deeply upon how the erosion of parliamentary procedure is adversely affecting our image amongst the general public,” he said.
He said the Rajya Sabha Ethics Committee headed by him has prepared a Code of Conduct for members which has now been sent to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
“Consistent breaches of the Code are bringing the whole parliamentary system into disrepute. Let us always remember that Parliament is par excellence the symbol of national integration which we are all meeting here to try and strengthen,” Singh said. PTI
