New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today morning congratulated his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, on his emphatic victory in the Lower House elections.
"Congratulations @AbeShinzo on your victory in the elections. Japan will scale newer heights of progress under your able leadership,” he said in a twitter post.
Modi also said that he looks forward to continuing to work closely with Abe to strengthen the relations between India and Japan
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with @AbeShinzo to strengthen the relations between India and Japan,” reads Modi's another tweet.
Japan's Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) and its junior partner the Komeito Party won 325 seats, a more than two-thirds majority, in Sunday's election for the 475-seat Lower House. The LDP alone secured 290 seats, while Komeito gained 35 seats.
The opposition Democratic Party of Japan won 73 seats, an 11-seat increase from the 2012 election.
