Congress on Tuesday said people will be inspired by Rahul Gandhi's remark that religion does not matter when it comes to becoming the Prime Minister of the country.
"Rahul Gandhi ji has said what is factual. He has invited youths and educated people to come forward..
He has said that one should be capable first, irrespective of his cast and community, to become Prime Minister," Party spokesman Shakeel Ahmad told reporters here. He was commenting on Gandhi's remarks made in an interaction with students of the Aligarh Muslim University on Monday .
"It is not about what religion or community you come from, it is what you bring to the table, what capability you have," Gandhi said while replying to a question that having come a long way after Independence how much more time will it take for India to have its first Muslim Prime Minister.
Ahmad however evaded a question whether there is a lack of capable Muslim leaders in the country and merely said, "people will get inspired from Gandhi's remarks." Asked about the party's stand on the Women Reservation Bill, the party spokesperson said, "we are trying for a consensus on the Bill." PTI
