Srinagar, April 9: Mehbooba Mufti, president of the main opposition PDP, here Tuesday alleged that the National Conference-led state government of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was responsible for stalling of the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir.

"For the state chief minister (Omar Abdullah), political process has come to mean issuing a statement against the centre or the army or challenging the 'atoot ang' (integral part) status of the state," the Peoples Democratic Party leader told reporters here.

"The CBMs (confidence building measures) started by the state government when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed sahib (her father) was the chief minister have completely been stalled. The peace process between India and Pakistan started by the central government has gone no farther," she charged.

"The CBMs like the road opening between the two parts of the state also lie in tatters," Mehbooba Mufti said.

She condemned the killing of a local sarpanch in south Kashmir's Pulwama district by gunmen Monday. "People expect them to rise to their expectations, but that did not happen," she said.

The PDP president blamed the government for harassing the local youths.

"Youths are arrested and booked under different cases. This is done by the National Conference to push the youths to the wall," she alleged.

She also blamed the state government for the poor power scenario in the Kashmir Valley.

"There is no electricity even for domestic consumption when the tourist season has already started here," she said.
