New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has categorically stated that  there is no connection between the ongoing deadlock in the parliament and the National Herald case.

In an exclusive interview to India TV, Chidambaram clarified that the parliament was not being stalled because of the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in the National Herald Case.

Chidambaram however tried to justify Congress's aggressive stand regarding this issue in the Parliament as he felt that ED was being used as a tool to fulfill some political motive.

"The Enforcement Directorate had looked into the National Herald matter earlier and closed the case. A private complainant then wrote a letter to the PM. On that letter, the case was again transferred to  Enforcement Directorate and it was reopened. These facts raise the suspicion that the BJP is not neutral in this case,” Chidambaram added.

On GST, Chidambaram said that  the Congress party is only against the present draft of the GST.

Chidambaram said that when PM Modi met Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh, the Congress had pointed out the shortcomings in the present bill and PM Modi himself agreed to look into these points.

“Even after more than 10 days, there is no development on the part of government regarding the issue,” Chidambaram said.

Chidambaram also indicated that if GST is not handled well this act will lead country on high inflation trajectory.
