Lok Sabha member and Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) founder Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav on Tuesday said he will draw attention of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Patna Senior Superintendent of Police “threatening” to cancel his bail and also raise the matter before the House Privilege Committee.
“It is the responsibility of a people's representative to raise issues concerning people and no police officer can stop him from doing so,” Pappu Yadav told reporters.
The Madhepura MP's reaction came after Patna SSP Vikash Vaibhav's assertions yesterday that the police would move Patna High Court seeking cancellation of Yadav's bail for repeatedly creating law and order problems, as well as breaking rules.
The MP charged the SSP with acting against him “under pressure” from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD president Lalu Prasad and harassing his party workers.
The Patna SSP denied the allegation. “I am doing duty with all sincerity in accordance with the law and no political meaning should be attached to it,” the SSP told PTI.
Vaibhav had yesterday said he had directed his officers to reopen and expedite action in criminal cases pending against Yadav, for which he had obtained bail.
Yadav had recently led an agitation of Special Auxiliary Police jawans raised from retired army personnel and created a law and order situation in the state capital.
Yesterday he and his supporters demonstrated in front of the Bihar Assembly creating problems for the people and security personnel.
We cannot allow people like him, who were on bail, to repeatedly violate rules and create law and order problems. We will file a petition in the High Court requesting cancellation of his bail, the SSP had said.
Besides Yadav, the police have also decided to oppose the bail plea moved by jailed JD(U) MLA Anant Singh facing a number of charges pertaining to kidnapping, murder, extortion and threats and also history-sheeter Ritlal Yadav, who was elected to Legislative Council recently from Patna.
Pappu Yadav also presented some women during the press conference, who he alleged were physically tortured and also raped at Parbatta in Khagaria district by criminals recently.
He added a public meeting has been called tomorrow at Parbatta in Khagaria in protest.
