New Delhi: Nearly 90,000 multiple entries and over 1.2 lakh image duplication cases have been identified by the Election Commission during the summary revision of electoral rolls in Delhi, an official said Sunday.
The discrepancies - 89,156 multiple entries and 1,20,605 image duplication cases - were detected by booth-level officers during a special "IT-enabled application and field verification" process to identify the false electorate.
"After the receipt of verification reports, appropriate rectification has already been carried out. The Election Commission also allowed suo motu deletion after following due process of notice in cases which were found to be questioned after the field verification," the official told IANS.
According to the poll panel, the scheduled date of publication of the electoral rolls in Delhi is Jan 5.
The official said that in all the cases, notice was issued by the respective electoral research officers for appropriate action as per law.
"At present, all such cases are kept in the 'absent, shifted or dead' list available on polling stations. All the district election officers have already apprised the political parties about these rectification steps," he said.
