Bolpur (WB), Jul 28: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that her opposition to hike in prices of essential commodities did not mean that her party the Trinamool Congress would quit the UPA at the Centre.

“I do not support the Centre raising the price of petrol, fertiliser as also other commodities of daily use and will not support it in future, but that does not mean we will leave the UPA,” Banerjee told a party rally in this Birbhum district headquarters town.

“If the CPI(M) thinks that the Trinamool will leave the UPA and give them an opportunity to join the Congress led coalition, they will be disappointed,” Banerjee said.

Banerjee said the farmers were hard hit by the price hike of fertiliser and she had appealed to the Centre to reduce it.
