Mohali: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said the pre-poll surveys predicting victory for AAP in the Delhi polls will be proved wrong and the SAD-BJP alliance will sweep the elections.

“SAD-BJP alliance will sweep the upcoming polls for the Delhi assembly,” Badal said here.

The five-time Chief Minister said, “The results of these (Delhi) elections will be contrary to the opinion polls done by the media in favour of Aam Aadmi Party.” Badal said the surveys had been wrong earlier and asserted that the SAD-BJP combine would get a thumping majority in the ensuing Delhi elections.  “People hold the key to success in any election and in Delhi, the people's verdict is clearly in the favor of SAD-BJP alliance,” he said.

The Shiromani Akali Dal is contesting Delhi polls in coalition with BJP. Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden is contesting on SAD symbol (scale) while three other Akali candidates: Jatinder Singh Shanty from Shahdara, Avtar Singh Hit from Hari Nagar and Harmeet Singh Kalka from Kalkaji are contesting on BJP symbol (lotus).

Earlier, speaking at the inauguration of an oil seal unit at Basma near Rajpura, Badal said the state was thrown into fiscal disarray by the previous Congress government at the Centre which gave incentives to the neighbouring hilly states only.

Badal said Punjab had emerged as one of the most preferred investment destinations in the country, a fact that has been vetted by the World Bank and Reserve Bank of India, because of the industry-friendly policies of his government.  The chief minister said that in pursuance of its agenda to develop the state as an industrial hub, the SAD-BJP government had taken several path breaking initiatives including VAT retention for upcoming industrial units for 10 years.

He said that his government has even exempted traders and small entrepreneurs from filing sales tax returns.  Badal said that as a result of all these policies, industrial tycoons like ITC, Cargill, SFN, Sonalika and others were coming up with big ticket projects in the state.  Meanwhile, while replying to a query, the Chief Minister also said that International flights would continue from Guru Ramdass International Airport at Amritsar.
