Chandigarh: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed dynastic politics in Haryana, BJP chief Amit Shah today attacked the Chautalas, saying the way that family has taken a plunge in politics, that day may not be far off when the clan will contest all the 90 Assembly seats in the state.

Shah said that after Devi Lal, Om Prakash Chautala came to rule the state. Later on, Chautala's sons Abhay and Ajay took the plunge and now O P Chautala's grandsons were trying to “grab power”.

“If it goes on like this, one day the whole clan will contest all the 90 seats in Haryana,” Shah said at election meetings in Rattia and Sirsa, which is considered stronghold of the Chautalas.

O P Chautala and his son Ajay Singh Chautala are barred from contesting after their sentencing in a teachers' recruitment case.

However, the former Chief Minister's son Abhay, who is a sitting MLA, is seeking re-election from Ellenabad while Ajay's son Dushyant, who is Hisar MP, is contesting the October 15 polls from Uchana Kalan.

Ajay Chautala's wife Naina Chautala, has also entered the fray, being the first woman from Devi Lal clan to contest. She is in fray from Dabwali, the seat represented by her husband.

Addressing a poll rally at Kurukshetra yesterday, Modi had said people should throw out those parties whose leaders were only interested in promoting their interests and that of their family at the cost of development and ensure that they do not get a single seat in the Assembly polls.

Modi had said, “In the 25-year history of the state has democracy been allowed to be saved. Here there is no democracy in any party. Here, politics of dynasty is prevalent and not democracy...this individualism, this dynastic culture and nepotism poses a threat to democracy and that is why we have to change the fortunes of Haryana.”

However, addressing a poll rally in Hodal in Palwal district on October 5, 79-year-old Chautala, who is out on bail on health grounds, had said, “I want to make one thing clear that we (INLD) are not power hungry. We do not want to grab power. Our mission is to fulfil the dreams and vision of Devi Lal.”

With war of words hotting up between Congress and BJP camp and INLD and BJP, Amit Shah said the leaders of these parties including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi were suffering from “Modi phobia”.
