New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his help in the implementation of the odd-even vehicle scheme that comes into effect from January 1, 2016.
In his letter, Kejriwal apprises the PM of the “unprecedented” and “unpopular” decision that his government has had to take in view of the rising air pollution in the national capital.
Seeking the PM's cooperation, Kejriwal has also requested the PM to encourage his ministers and secretaries to follow the rules laid out in letter and spirit.
“I, along with my colleagues, will follow the rules in totality and will opt for car-pooling to travel. I request you to encourage all your ministers and secretaries to do the same,” Kejriwal wrote.
“Doing so will send the right message to the people of Delhi and our efforts will get the required support,” he added.
Necessary directive or appeal from the Prime Minister will have a comprehensive impact towards the success of the odd-even formula, Kejriwal further wrote.
Starting January 1, Delhi will implement an odd-even formula under which odd-numbered vehicles would be allowed to run on odd dates and the even-numbered vehicles on the even days.
The plan will be implemented for 15 days in the first phase.
The Delhi government's radical plan comes in wake of the alarming pollution levels in the national capital.
