New Delhi, Oct 29: The Congress today justified the shifting of S. Jaipal Reddy from the Petroleum ministry saying that it was the Prime Minister's prerogative and there was nothing called “promotion or demotion” in the reshuffle.
Party spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said, it was more of a public perception just because the ministry dealt with a number of corporates.
Dikshit said, Jaipal Reddy has been in a number of ministries, and it was clearly the Prime Minister's prerogative to decide about the portfolios.
“Even during the NDA regime, the finance minister was changed because of corporate pressure, and one of their finance ministers went on record saying that he was a victim of corporate pressure”, Dikshit said.
“You let the new Petroleum Minister do his work. Let him do his duties adequately and let's stay away from innuendoes or conjectures”, the spokesperson said.
There has been media reports about Jaipal Reddy being shunted because of his hard stand on the K G Basin issue.
