Chandigarh, Mar 6: CPI (M) today ruled out political alliance with Congress-led UPA or BJP-led NDA ahead of Lok Sabha polls due next year, saying the party would provide another alternative to the people.
"There is no question of an alliance with UPA as our political understanding is to provide a platform to the people of the country which is alternative to basic policies of both Congress and BJP," CPI (M) polit bureau member Brinda Karat told reporters here.
She also demanded an impartial probe in Rs 52,000 crore loan wavier scheme of the UPA, which came under the CAG scanner, alleging that farmers were not getting loans under it and were in huge debt.
Karat said the thrust of CPI (M) was against the economic policies of both the Congress and BJP. "We are against fundamentalism and communalism," she said.
Both the Congress and the BJP have "utterly failed" to address the challenges and basic issues before the country, she said.
Karat alleged that UPA was "subverting" all democratic institutions of the country due to pro-corporate governance.
The current budget showed a deficit of Rs 5.2 lakh crore, but Rs 5.73 lakh crore tax concessions were given in the budget proposals, she claimed.
"There is a competition between the Congress and the BJP as to who will look better to corporate sector," she said.
"BJP's Gujarat model is a corporate model of unequal growth which is not acceptable," Karat said.
She said there was complete unity in the Left and the party was capable of dealing with differences within it.
The UPA's policies could not serve the youth of the country, she said, adding, the Centre must go in for large scale investment to kick start employment.
Thrust should be on expanding public sector and providing jobs, she said.
Karat demanded reforms in land and rural housing on a big scale for the growth of the country.
"In its alternative policies, the CPI (M) is projecting issues of social justice, dalits, tribals, women and minority rights," she said.
She expressed serious concern over the number of cases of violence against women and the low rate of conviction of alleged offenders.
"Of the total 68,000 cases of rape registered in the country in the past years, the conviction rate is meagre 22 per cent," she said.
Karat said the CPI (M) in collaboration with trade unions did a commendable job in preventing the UPA from bringing labour legislation aimed at privatisation of the sector.
The CPI(M) leader said the central and state governments needed to work together to help people struggling with debt due to ailments.
