New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) did not send any team to Dadri after the lynching of a Muslim man over suspicion of eating beef.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju told the Lok Sabha today that as per information received from the NHRC, it did not send any team for on the spot investigation after the incident of killing a man over allegation of slaughtering a banned animal in September.

The killing of 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq by a mob in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh had sparked outrage in the country.

Rijiju said, "However, the Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh government and District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Gautam Budh Nagar, UP, seeking report from them."

In the written reply, the Minister said although no inquiry had been initiated by the Home Ministry, a report had been sought from the state government on the incident.

According to the report, some members of a particular community entered the house of a person on the intervening night of September 28-29 and beat him and his son up on the allegation of slaughtering a banned animal. One of the persons later succumbed to his injuries, he said.
