New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that there are no intelligence inputs that Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is trying to gain ground on the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that some youths had unfurled the flags of ISIS in Srinagar on a few occasions during the last two-three months.

During the interrogation process of youth, the Minister said, it was revealed that they had seen ISIS related literature on social media and were fascinated by it.

The government is closely monitoring the situation and has directed the intelligence and security agencies to identify all such elements and keep a watch on their activities, he said.

Meanwhile, the official Twitter handle of the Home Ministry also posted the same.

“There are no intelligence inputs that ISIS is trying to gain ground among the youth in Kashmir,” the MHA tweet reads.

“However, some youths have unfurled the flags of ISIS in Srinagar on a few occasions during the last 2-3 months,” the MHA said in another twitter post.

“Interrogation of youth in these cases indicates that they had seen ISIS related literature on social media and were fascinated by it,” it added.

“None of the youths were associated with any terrorist / militant organizations,” it said in another tweet.
