Patna: BJP today alleged that former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was taking revenge on Bihar by pushing it on the path of destruction to settle score for getting massive drubbing in the last general elections.

“Kumar has punished Bihar by pushing it on the path of destruction in order to teach the people a lesson for handing out a massive drubbing to the ruling JD(U) in the general elections held earlier this year,” the former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said in a statement.

A cursory look at the happenings over the past 15 months, like the JD(U)'s alliance with the RJD, Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's controversial remarks on various issues, spate in crime and growing cases of extortion demands pointed to the return of “jungle raj” he said.

“If an individual has to be held responsible for the prevailing misrule in Bihar, it's the former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as he conveniently forgot his own critical views about the RJD and Congress and went back to these two parties to seek their support to the fledgling JD(U) government post-split with the NDA last year,” Modi said.

The former deputy chief minister said that his erstwhile boss had committed three mistakes to weaken the development process in the state to bring back the frightening days of “jungle raj,”.

Kumar's mistakes, he said, were parting ways with the NDA to protest Narendra Modi's anointment as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, quitting as the chief minister by taking responsibility for the JD(U)'s debacle in the general elections, but not going for a fresh mandate and appointing Jitan Ram Manjhi as his successor.

The former CM was, however, not prepared to put a stop to his mistakes as speculation was rife that the RJD and the Congress were set to join the JD(U) government, Modi said, adding that miseries of Bihar would be compounded and a rule of terror would be established if the two protagonists of the “jungle raj” joined the government.

The senior BJP leader said that the RJD and the Congress were collectively responsible for lawlessness and backwardness of the state by presiding “jungle raj” over 15 years in Bihar and these two parties would enact a similar script if they got a share in the state government again.
