Patna: Attacking Nitish Kumar for proposing to merge his party with RJD ahead of Bihar assembly polls, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi today said the senior JD(U) leader was in no position to guarantee good governance and law and order after joining with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad.  “Kumar was a symbol of good governance only for so long as he was with the BJP... the plank has been taken off him once he joined forces with the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, whose party's rule for 15 years' symbolised ‘jungle raj,” he said in a statement.

“Now that the senior JD(U) leader has decided to merge his party with the RJD and form a new political outfit to take on the BJP, he finds himself in no position to guarantee good governance and law and order in Bihar,” Modi said.  The fact of the matter was that the RJD supremo has left the former chief minister in no position to guarantee good governance, the former deputy chief minister said.

Paining a grim picture about prevalence of ‘jungle raj-2' in Bihar ever since the RJD extended support to the JD(U) government, Modi said the crime graph, particularly murder and rape, has exceeded the figure of 2005 (when the RJD-led alliance was in power in Bihar) even as incidents like road robbery and extortion has increased alarmingly so much so the people felt terrified.

The incidents like death of 23 students after consuming contaminated Mid-Day Meal (MDM) at Mashrakh in Saran district, terror attacks in Bodh Gaya and Patna and loss of 33 lives in stampede in Patna, have taken away Kumar's USP of good governance and guarantee of security to people, he said and asked Kumar to explain as to why these incidents were allowed to take place.

Charging the former chief minister with running the Jitan Ram Manjhi government through remote control, Modi alleged that the state government has failed to distribute diesel subsidy to drought-hit farmers even as the paddy procurement was yet to take place much to the woes of farmers.
