Ara, Bihar, Oct 14 : As Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar cancelled his yatra in Ara and Buxar today in the face of threats from extremist outfit Ranveer Sena, Janata Dal-United leaders came to blows on the dais of  a public meeting here.

Slain Ranveer Sena chief Brahmeshwar Mukhia's son Indu Bhushan, who heads the Rashtravadi Kisan Sangathan, said his outfit would oppose Nitish Kumar in all his meetings.

He alleged that the ruling party was shielding the killers of his father.

The Chief Minister called off his meetings as he was busy monitoring the violence in Madhubani, for which senior officials were transferred, official sources said.

In Ara today, at an Adhikar Yatra rally,  Surendra Singh, the husband of a former MLA bashed up the district JD-U chief Vishwanath Singh on the dais, when the former went up to give a speech.

This incident took place in the presence of JD-U state chief Vashisht Narayan Singh, half a dozen state ministers and Ara MP Meena Singh.

Supporters of Surendra Singh pushed Vishwanath Singh from the dais, and lifting plastic chairs they chased Singh out of the meeting venue.

Stunned party leaders watched the beating  while the audience that had collected ran away from the scene.

JD-U MP Meena Singh also suffered injuries in the melee.
