A late-night meeting was held on Tuesday at Nitish Kumar's official residence 1, Anne Marg in which an informal decision was taken to end the 17-year-old alliance with the BJP.
Present at the meeting were Bihar's Water Resources Minister Vijay Chaudhary, Food Supplies Minister Shyam Rajak, Rajya Sabha MP RCP Sinha and MP Ranjan Yadav among others.
Later Shyam Rajak told mediapersons that party chief Sharad Yadav can convene a meeting any time to take a formal decision. This may take 2-3 days as Nitish Kumar would be busy with his Seva yatra.
Ministers Vijay Chaudhary and Narendra Singh also indicated that it was amatter of hardly two or three days for their party to sever the alliance.
Sources said, Nitish Kumar told party leaders last night that JD(U) should contest all 40 Lok Sabha seats from Bihar on its own, and win at least 20 seats to play a vital role at the Centre.
Nitish Kumar also supported Odisha chief minsiter Naveen Patnaik's rally in Delhi on Wednesday demanding special status and said all backward states should now join hands to play a decisive role at the Centre.
