Bhopal, Jun 25: Congress General Secretary, Digvijay Singh, has denied having ever said that Anna Hazare be dealt with in the same way as Baba Ramdev.
Singh also says that his party had “nothing to do with” the police action against the yoga guru's agitation in Delhi earlier this month.
In a letter written today to Rajya Sabha MP Anil Madhav Dave (BJP), Digvijay says, “I have always maintained that Congress party had nothing to do with the action taken against Baba Ramdev in New Delhi on June four.”
Dave had earlier written an open letter to Singh, criticizing him for the alleged statement that Hazare be given a similar treatment.
Singh says in the letter to Dave that based on a statement which he had never made, Dave made series of allegations against him and tried to fuel a public debate on the issue. “I do not object to this and am ready for a public debate with you on any forum,” the letter adds.
Countering Dave's remark that Singh had been an unsuccessful Chief Minister, the letter claims that during his tenure, several attempts were made to bring out reforms in the economic, social and political sectors in Madhya Pradesh. PTI
