Guha said, Modi has infused enthusiasm among BJP workers no doubt, but like the US presidential system, a single person cannot take a party to victory. The choice of candidates at the local level does count, he added.
"In Indian history, Indira Gandhi was the only leader who singlehandedly led her party to victory in the 1971 Lok Sabha elections, and it was she who was reponsible for her party's debacle in 1977", said Guha.
