New Delhi, Oct 11:  Hitting out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday said he was trying to mislead the country by stating that the "infirmity of law" was preventing the government from taking action in corruption cases.

Quoting from Manmohan Singh's Wednesday speech that the mindless atmosphere of negativity over corruption could do no good, the BJP said the most shameful examples of loot of public money were in his regime.

"The negativity and pessimism in the people of the country is a direct by-product of gross inaction, callous indifference and conscious institutional subversion under you," said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

He said the prime minister was trying to mislead the country by pointing out that "infirmity of law" was preventing him from taking action.

"We want to ask PM few questions - Kalmadi was the ugliest face of Commonwealth Games but Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) did not chargesheet him; which law prevented you? Similarly, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was indicted by Shunglu Committee but no action was taken against her," said Prasad.

"When you were coal minister, 70 coal blocks were given to 145 companies in captive and not one is in production. Many companies got the blocks on fudged documents and some were even ineligible. Who is stopping you from taking action?" he asked.
