New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi today where he will launch the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS).

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching IPDS on June 28, 2015 at Varanasi. IPDS is one of the flagship programmes of the Ministry of Power and will be at the core attempt to ensure 24x7 power for all," an official statement said on Saturday.

Tight security has been put in place for his visit.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Governor Ram Naik would receive the PM at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport at Babatpur. PM will travel by helicopter and road to Banaras Hindu University (BHU), where he will inaugurate the newly-built trauma centre.

Later at the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) ground here, he would launch the IPDS, for which Centre has already allocated Rs 572 crore. Government will provide budgetary support of Rs 45,800 crore over the entire implementation period of IPDS. Out of the total amount Rs 1,067 crore has been sanctioned for Uttar Pradesh including Rs 572 crore for Varanasi.

The project envisages converting overhead lines into underground cabling in the areas around the temples and ghats in the Varanasi city.

Th PM would also launch the ring road project and approve the conversion of the road from LBS International Airport to city's Varuna bridge into a four-lane road which will ease traffic movement coming into the ancient city.

He would address the ‘Vikas Jansabha' at the same place which a large number of people are expected to attend.

On Friday, PM's party BJP took out a march in the city appealing to the people to attend the ‘Vikas Jansabha'. Mayor Ram Gopal Mohale and party's Kashi region president Laxman Acharya led the march.  Party's minority wing leaders visited the weavers' locality and requested them to attend the PM's public meeting.

This is Modi's third visit to his constituency since becoming PM in May last year.

Earlier in the day, he will also address the nation through his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat'.
