The assembly constituency of Chaibasa falls in the Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat. The seat which was occupied by Bharatiya Janata Party in 2005 was taken over by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)'s Deepak Birua in 2009 assembly elections.

Meanwhile, polling in 13 Maoist-affected constituencies of Jharkhand and 15 in Jammu and Kashmir will begin at 8 am.
Counting of votes in both states will take place on December 23.
