Vijayawada (AP):  Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today appealed corporates to donate 2 per cent of their total revenue to the education sector of the state to transform it into a knowledge hub.

Speaking at a programme to mark the International Literacy Day here, Naidu said, "My government's commitment is to transform the state into an education and knowledge hub which is essential for the comprehensive growth of the state".

However, the Chief Minister expressed unhappiness over the fact that AP ranks 30th among the states in the country in terms of literacy.

"I appeal corporates to donate 2 per cent of their total revenue to education sector to transform the state into a knowledge hub," he said.

According to him, about 45 lakh people remain illiterate in the state and all of them have to be made literate.

"The adult education department is working to improve the literacy among the adults, especially women," Naidu added.

He said that most of the women who enrol as members of self help groups have become literate.

Naidu expressed the need to change school and college curricula according to the needs of the society.
