Mumbai, Sep 9 : Mumbai police on Saturday arrested Aseem Trivedi, a cartoonist and member of India Against Corruption on charge of "insulting" India's national emblem by making a cartoon.

Trivedi had displayed a cartoon during Anna Hazare's fast at MMRDA grounds in which the national emblem showing heads of three lions were replaced by heads of three wolves. In place of 'Satyamev Jayate', Trivedi wrote 'Bhrastamev Jayate'.

The Bandra Kurla complex police had then filed a case of 'severe crime' against Trivedi under section 124A(sedition), 66A of Information Technology Act and National Emblem Act, 1971.

Aseem Trivedi hails from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh and is an active member of India Against Corruption headed by Arvind Kejriwal.

Aseem's colleague Aalok Dikshit said, Aseem himself went to the BKC police station on Saturday at 7 pm and surrendered. He was produced before a magistrate on Sunday.
