Mumbai, June 5 : Local BJP workers and leaders would join in the nationwide protest called by the party against the police action against Baba Ramdev and his followers.
City BJP acitivists, including BJP Mumbai president Raj Purohit, would be on a day-long hunger-strike at Azad Maidan from this evening, till tomorrow, Purohit told PTI.
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Eknath Khadse; state BJP leaders Vinod Tawde, Kirit Somaiya, and others would be taking part in the agitation.
“It is the right of every Indian to raise his voice against corruption. We are supporting this and it is not BJP's agitation. We are following the Gandhian way of dharna (sit-in),” Purohit told PTI.
He compared police's action at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to Jalianwala Bag incident.
“Like Baba Ramdev, BJP has been demanding an end to corruption. The way the government has behaved is unfair and they are cheating people... Approximately 700 BJP supporters are expected to join us at Azad Maidan this evening,” General Secretary of BJP Mumbai, Vivekanand Gupta, said. PTI
