New Delhi, Sep 23: Mulayam Singh will not accept it publically but he is trying his best to cobble up a non-Congress, non-BJP formation before 2014 general elections. He knows it very well that it's ‘now or never' for him. Therefore, he is exploring every possible option minus BJP.

As part of his well planned move, Mulayam met Sukhabir Singh Badal, Akali Dal President and Son of Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal, on Saturday in New Delhi. The meeting lasted for about 35 minutes.

According to sources, the meeting was fixed by former Union minister B S Ramoowalia, a close confidante of late CPM general secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet.

It was Mulayam Singh who got Ramoowalia elected to Rajya Sabha at the request of Surjeet. Ramoowalia went on to become a union minister in the united front government.

It is an open secret that Harkishan Singh Surjeet wanted to make Mulayam Singh the Prime Minister after the Congress withdrew support to Deve Gowda government.

With the backing of Harkishan Singh Surjeet, Mulayam defeated the other powerful contender G K Moopnar, the supremo of Tamil Manila Congress, in an internal voting of UF MPs by a margin of 120 – 20.

But unfortunately, other Yadav heavyweights like Lalu Yadav and Sharad Yadav played the perfect spoilsport and instigated TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to oppose Mulayam's candidature. This fierce opposition from powerful chieftains shattered Mulayam's hopes of making an entry into 7, Race Course road.

This time, Mulayam asked Ramoowalia, who has an Akali leader now, to fix a meeting with SAD president and Ramoowalia lost no time in paying him back.

The meeting was attended by Sukhbir and his wife Karsimrat Kaur badal besides ramoowalia himself.

It is believed that Mulayam singh recalled old days of association with Akalis and stressed the need for a commom fight against “anti-poor” policies of NManmohan singh led government.

However, Sukhbir, according to sources, did not gave Mulayam any concrete assurance.

It should be recalled that Mulayam has always enjoyed cozy relationship with Akalis and Sukhbir had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Mulayam's son Akhilesh Yadav as UP's Chief Minister.
